Planning and Working are separate activities. We should not really mix the two actions. It is best to Plan and then Do. It is also best to plan early (either the morning of or the evening before). You do not work 24/7. So it is important to establish your duties hours. This can be your work period on the job, or even extend beyond our standard office time. For work-at-home folks this period may begin early and end late. You should establish a specific start time and an end time.
Being organized is vital as you try to keep your household clean and in good running order. Just as businesses use checklists to make sure that things get done, you too can use one to make sure you stay ahead of the clutter in your home. A thorough checklist and calendar system can help keep you accountable to your chores, and give your family the nice home they deserve. These three tips will show you the importance of housekeeping checklists and the accountability they can foster.
Next establish which Goal-Oriented Tasks you want to finish this day. Each must be specific. These can be complete tasks or milestones which are part of a larger program. Estimate the time it will take to FINISH each action. As you do this, write each task and its duration on a Daily Planning Sheet. A well-managed day must be realistic. There are always unexpected actions. You Daily Plan should set aside a definite amount of time (30, 60 or more minutes) for the UNEXPECTED. This will also give you the awareness so you can control these events.
Think of the many areas where you could develop a checklist and make your life safer, easier, and more predictable. Is it tech failure? (What to do when your hard drive crashes) Health Problems? (If you or your child is really not feeling well, what to look for and do?) Family Emergency? (Who calls whom, where are the healthcare proxies, and who is in charge of what?) Workplace Emergencies? (Weather issues, security problems, and accidents.) Would not it be easier, under these circumstances to pull up a sheet then try to figure out, in sixty seconds, what you are forgetting?
Balance your work schedule with enjoyable "pick-me-up" activities that help manage your stress creatively. This is not an option but a necessity! Making time for fun and enjoyable activities is all about respecting yourself and also modeling this for your family. Start with small activities like spending time at a park or seeing your favorite movie.
For most of us life is a constant battle to stay organized, we write lists of the things we need to and when we need to get them done. However, when the tasks we have to get done get a little more complex a good checklist might come in handy to make sure that everything gets done properly. Using a template for a checklist you can create detailed lists that include groupings of particular tasks and checklists to make sure that you get every task done in the proper order and reduce the risk of mistakes being made.
