The question now is how could families manage the family financial in a time like this and avoid falling into future quagmire because of squandering future family money. Families were lured into spending frenzies by Shylock soft loan lenders that hid under ostentatious good dealers to dish out the loan with well hidden fine prints that tend to hang the unsuspecting families who as a result spend beyond their family budgets and or even personal budgets. In the process many families with children have lost their family home. Though, spendthrift families are also not innocent as quite a few of them never built nor used family plans and family budgets. Some never even sought family help when they became aware of their circumstance in their family financial.
First, you must balance your checkbook. You can either use software, or pen and paper to accomplish this task. Now, if the concept of balancing a checkbook eludes you, just search the internet on how to balance your checkbook. And, as you balance your checkbook, you should pay particular attention to missed transactions, bad math, or any unexpected transactions. I remember that on one occasion I had recorded an unexpected deposit as a withdraw in my checkbook register. So, to my chagrin, my $150.00 deposit became on paper, a $300.00 withdraw.
Why a budget is so important? It seems like creating a budget is just a tedious exercise, especially if you feel your finances are already in good working order. But you would be surprised how valuable a budget is. A budget can help keep your spending on track and uncover hidden cash flow problems that could free up more money to put toward your other financial goals. How to Create a Budget? The hardest part of creating a budget is creating one. It is like staring at a blank piece of paper when you need to write something, the first step is the hardest part.
Engage your immediate family - spouse and children into the budget project. If you are single then perhaps you`d like to involve your Mom, Dad or a trusted friend - this is to engage you with 100% of your attention on the project as it can be easy to laps back into old habits when doing this kind of thing on your own. With your spouse and children, make your financial budget project into a joint venture, with everyone participating.
Checkbook registers come in many sizes, shapes, and colors; yet, for all of their physical diversities, their only function is to provide information about your bank account. And since you are basing your lifestyle on the amount of funds in your bank account; it would behoove you to have an accurate account. Remember, you are the first line of defense against potential problems that can arise from having misinformation. Of course, you can be like our friend above who waited and had his card returned, deflated and useless only then to realize that there is a serious problem.
By involving children into what is generally an adult task and conversation topic, they will soon learn the value of money and want to contribute positively in the family joint venture. If your children receive pocket money or income from an after-school job, encourage them to make their own budget to manage their money and too stick to it. This can prove invaluable to them later on in life.
