Anne Sanborn December 18, 2021 Family Schedule
Having a problem? Schedule It! For example, do your kids tend to whine late afternoons before mealtime? Schedule "whine time" by putting in on the daily schedule, to get the whining out of their system.
Since you will be homeschooling your child, careful thought needs to be given not only to your home school schedule, but your family schedule will need to be integrated into the mix as well. Also make sure that your lesson plan coincides well with your educational calendar. After taking a high level look at your home school calendar integrated with your family calendar, you may decide that the traditional school year calendar of end of summer through early spring may not be the most advantageous.
Also the homeschool day does not necessarily need to start say at 8am. There is no stringent time schedule that you must adhere to as is the case in public schools. As with your home school lesson planning, your scheduling should take into careful consideration your childs learning style and determine what will work best. As a homeschooling family, you have the option of planning trips at other times of the year when for example, air fare is cheaper and the lines are shorter! If vacations are not a part of your plans, there are probably other reasons (such as birthdays) for tailor making your own home school calendar.
We came also bring some of our work home, although this is not highly recommended but sometimes we might have to and if we do then we can set aside a couple of hours to do it but we should give our Children something constructive to do while we are busy. They should understand that we need that extra time to finish our work and that we should not be disturbed. It is a good idea to offer them a treat if they would behave themselves while we are working.
Family life can be overwhelming at times, so what can you do to stay sane? Keep things simple, have a routine, and be flexible. It is pretty easy if you set some guidelines for the rhythm of your life that everyone in your family can adhere to. The end result? You will be left with more time for Mom and Dad and that is a really sweet thing.
At a family meeting, establish the plan together. They are much more likely to stick to it. Then when your child objects to the plan, remind them that you built it together and you would be happy to re-evaluate the plan at your next family meeting. Post the plan on the refrigerator so that everyone can see it and be reminded of what happens next. Use small drawings or symbols next to each items to allow non-readers to participate.
